First Time Self Storage Guide

Self-storage is an affordable, efficient way for you to store your life's possessions. Self-storage makes it easy to store items of all shapes and sizes in one convenient storage location. How do I use it? Self-storage can be used for many purposes: - As an extension of your home; a place to store seldom used items - To store seasonal items such as decorations, sports equipment, lawn mowers or snow blowers or bicycles while you're waiting for the snow to melt! - As a business storage solution to de-clutter your office, store important documents, extra office furniture for upsizing or downsizing, or additional inventory - To free up garage space so you can actually park your car in a sheltered environment and many more!
Create a list of the items that you are going to be storing. Choosing the right size unit will ensure that you only pay for the storage you need. Visit our size guide to determine exactly what size you will need, and then check out our helpful storing tips for maximizing your storage space!
Our month to month rentals give you the flexibility to choose just how long you will require your unit. Most people think that they may only need storage for 6 months or a year depending on their circumstances. Planning ahead and determining what kind of space your belongings will take up is a good start.
You provide the lock ensuring that you, and only you, have access. Don't have a lock? No problem, we offer a wide range of locks, packing and moving supplies to make your move stress-free. Even better, we offer a wide selection of moving supplies at very affordable prices.
Yes, you are responsible for those items you store. We offer affordable self-storage insurance options at the facility. If you have a homeowner's insurance policy we do accept this with a copy of your policy that we keep on file.
Many of our locations have extra wide drive aisles, allowing your rental truck or movers easy access to your unit. We offer FREE hand-carts and/or dollies at many of our facilities. And at all of our facilities we offer U-Haul trucks, vans, and moving equipment to assist you in moving your items. Contact us today to speak to one of our helpful managers to check our wide variety of moving supplies, equipment, and hand-cart availability.
Our storage facility has restrictions as to what you can and cannot store in your unit. This is for the protection for you and your belongings, as well as our staff, other customers and their goods.

You will be required to sign a lease that you understand this policy and that you agree to the rules and restrictions. In general, here is a list of prohibited items:

  • Combustible, flammable, hazardous or toxic materials. Considered "inherently dangerous," these include gasoline, compressed gas, propane tanks, kerosene, lamp and motor oil, acid, grease, corrosives, fertilizer, paint, cleaners, chemicals, narcotics, or hazardous, toxic or biological waste. Asbestos or products containing asbestos are not allowed. You also cannot store fireworks, explosives, weapons or ammunition.
  • Tires and vehicles. No more than 4 tires allowed to be stored and all vehicles/RV's/campers/trailers/motorcycles must be registered, insured and in operational condition.
  • Radioactive equipment or supplies. If you are pharmaceutical rep it is a great option to store your supplies but keep in mind what is allowed and not allowed.
  • Perishable food products such as cereal, produce or meats. These will attract pests and can be harmful to you and other customers.
  • Any plants or animals, alive or dead.
  • No one is allowed to plug in any type of appliance - such as refrigerators, space heaters, freezers, generators or anything that would accommodate living in the unit.
  • Construction equipment. Some equipment may not be allowed to store in the unit. Check with the facility manager prior to storing anything that you may use on a construction site.

In general, if you are unsure about what you can store we are here to help! Call us using the number above to ask questions about how we may be of service.
